Snapchat is one of the most popular social media platforms, with an estimated 100 million daily users.

Savvy brands are integrating Snapchat into their social media marketing, using the platform to engage and reach younger, tech- smart audiences.

Snapchat have recently announced geo filters, a feature that brands and small businesses will be wise to try out. Enabling users to design custom filters that can be used directly on snaps, the filters can then be pushed out and based on a defined, custom location.

For businesses, the new feature provides an on demand geo filter that can be used to push branding, business names and promotional content. For individual users, the geo filter capacity can be used to add additional fun to parties, family gatherings and other special events.

The custom geo filters can be purchased from as little as $5, making them an affordable price point for small businesses and individuals who may not have considered spending on social media advertising before.

So how will it work? Users will select dates and create a geofence around their chosen location. A representative from Snapchat confirmed that the feature will be limited to six or seven geo filters in one area, ensuring that users aren’t overwhelmed by too many choices. Since launch, Snapchat has received more than half a million user submitted filters.

It’s clear that this move could be a clear moneymaker for Snapchat, particularly as it tries to keep up with the rapid growth and influence of its competitor, Instagram.
