Determination: You’ll need drive, perseverance and determination to be a great PR pro. If there’s a particular pitch that you want to score, or a meeting that you’re trying to schedule, keep on at it until you’re successful!

Creativity: it goes without saying that you will need to have a creative mind and attitude to working to be great in public relations. Whether working on an important campaign or creating a fun social media strategy, an ‘out of the box’ method of thinking will stand you in good stead.

Meticulous attention to detail: dot your I’s and cross your t’s! Poor attention to detail, such as spelling and grammatical errors, sloppy presentation and general tardiness is a fast way to losing an account. I check everything at least three times and ask a friend or family member to run their eyes over important pieces of work just in case I missed anything.

Friendliness: networking is key in the communications industry, and being friendly is perhaps one of the most important traits you’ll need. Speak to as many people as you can at networking events, chat over social media and have an open mindset when meeting new connections. You’ll never know when you may need them!

Deadline driven: deadlines are a vital part of the fast moving PR industry. Don’t promise to turn something in when you know you won’t be able to. Set realistic deadlines for your clients and plan ahead so you can reach your targets. Deadlines don’t need to be stressful!
